do not cheat, be fair, write content according to customer not search engine.
update site regularly and submit to good directories like dmoz or dir.yahoo.com

hi guys
i just want to add some thing in do's
now a days building quality back links are as much important as optimizing website pages. it is also called off-page seo.
bez in my experience you can beat good domains (old, nice, having good search engine presence) with quality back links

off page seo is more important than on page seo.
try to give link of your site in social book msrking websites like
digg
facebook
stumbleupon
etc etc

now a days i think off-page seo is more important than on-page seo.
well the biggest dont in seo is do not ever copy others content.
if you have some blog. just check with copyscape that if your content is unique or not

guys, submission in yahoo directory is $299 per year. is it worth to invest that much amount of money to get one link ? thanks

i will add my contribution
if you like google do some on-page seo and build hight quality links as much as you can
if you like msn ... build links from high PR websites
if you like yahoo .... spend most of time on on-page seo.
